The Ohio State University had formal traffic and parking regulations on campus as early as 1924. A "Traffic Department" coordinated the regulations and the Student Court heard traffic cases. In July of 1955, the University requested a third party to study the traffic and parking system on campus. Based on the report, the University Traffic Committee recommended registration by the University of all vehicles parked on campus, creation of a parking zone map, and allocation of revenue from registration and fines to the continued maintenance of this new system. A Commission on Traffic and Parking was also established. By the 1950's, the Traffic Department was known as the Office of the Traffic Division, and by 1968 as the Division of Traffic and Parking. In 2003, it became the Department of Transportation and Parking Services. In 2012, Ohio State University signed a 50-year parking concession with CampusParc, a third party vendor. CampusParc became responsible for the operation of the parking system, and the University continued to regulate traffic and operate bus routes through Transportation and Traffic Management and its Campus Area Bus Service (CABS).
