As of 2018, Graduate Women in Science (GWIS) is an organization that offers opportunities for networking, leadership, and fellowships for women in the sciences. The organization was founded at Cornell University in 1921 as the Sigma Delta Epsilon Graduate Women's Scientific Fraternity (SDE). In 1971, the organization changed its name to Sigma Delta Epsilon Graduate Women in Science. The organization shortened its name to Graduate Women in Science in 2016. The Sigma Delta Epsilon, Women in Science Records contains financial records, membership lists, history, newsletters, and other administrative records related to the Sigma Delta Epsilon sorority. The collection also contains records specific to the Theta Chapter, including president's papers, membership and officers lists, and leaflets for initiates. Historical Note
As of 2018, Graduate Women in Science (GWIS) is an organization that offers opportunities for networking, leadership, and fellowships for women in the sciences. The organization was founded in 1921 as the Sigma Delta Epsilon Graduate Women's Scientific Fraternity (SDE), by a group of women at Cornell University. It became a national organization in 1922 with the establishment of Beta Chapter at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Their first national convention was held the same year. The Theta Chapter was established at Ohio State University in 1927, and existed at least through the 1980s. In 1971, the organization changed its name to Sigma Delta Epsilon Graduate Women in Science and was granted 501(c)(3) non-profit status. The organization shortened its name to Graduate Women in Science in 2016.

The Sigma Delta Epsilon, Women in Science Records contains financial records, membership lists, history, newsletters, and other administrative records related to the Sigma Delta Epsilon sorority. The collection also contains records specific to the Theta Chapter, including president's papers, membership and officers lists, and leaflets for initiates.
