Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity was first founded in 1909 at the College of the City of New York; the Sigma Beta chapter at the Ohio State University was founded on May 28, 1920. It was a Jewish social fraternity, though it has been open to "all men of good moral character" since 1953; the Sigma Beta chapter was active through approximately 2013. Sigma Alpha Mu, also known as "Sammy," was revived and rechartered in 2016, but had its charter suspended in February 2018, and is not active as of that time.
