Historical Note

Pay It Forward is a student cohort in the Student Activities Department in the Office of Student Life at the Ohio State University. Pay It Forward was formerly known as the Students Engaged in Responsible Volunteering (SERV) team, and has existed since at least 2005. It consists of 22 students on six committees, who help arrange local volunteer opportunities for members of the student body to participate in. The purpose of the group is to train and encourage students in lifelong civic engagement. Pay It Forward sponsors several major service activities throughout the school year, such as Community Commitment and Spring Into Service, and collaborates with local community agencies. Pay It Forward is active as of 2018. A related group that travels to complete service projects in other cities, known as Buck-I-SERV, is Ohio State University's alternative, substance-free break program; they have sponsored up to 80 service trips a year since 2003.
