Alpha Phi is a women's fraternity open to undergraduate women; it was founded in 1872 as The Michaelanean Society in Syracuse, New York. In 1912, local fraternity Lambda Alpha was granted a charter by Alpha Phi and became the Rho Chapter at Ohio State University. Lambda Alpha was founded in 1909 with the intention of petitioning Alpha Phi for membership.
