 Historical Note

The Athletic Association was a student organization at Ohio State University, first formed in 1882 as the Athletic Association of the Ohio State University. Their purpose was to promote athletic interests of the Ohio State University, and it was open to students, alumni, and others officially connected to the university. The Athletic Association scheduled sports competitions against other universities and colleges, sold tickets to athletic events, hosted field days, and was responsible for maintaining sports fields and facilities on campus using money gathered through fundraisers and ticket sales. The Association often had financial troubles in the 1890s, most of which were blamed on the football team's expenses. In 1920, the Athletic Association was involved in the campaign to raise funds to build Ohio Stadium. At some point prior to 1943, the Athletic Association also began to go by the name The Athletic Board. The Athletic Association was active until at least 1950.

 Scope and Contents

The Ohio State University, Athletic Association Records, date from 1897 to 1910. They contain administrative records, financial records, and correspondence from the Athletic Association related to the running of the Athletics program.
