 Historical Note

Student Council of University College (SCUVC) was a student government organization at Ohio State University. It was established in 1971 and existed until 2001. SCUVC was established to represent the students enrolled in University College in academic matters and advocate for their educational concerns; for example, SCUVC worked to improve academic advisement and the teaching of freshmen courses. Council membership consisted of approximately 25 to 35 students who were enrolled in University College. They were elected annually by the University College student body and represented all College Academic Program areas.

University College was opened in 1966 as a two year college primarily located on West Campus, and existed until 2001, when it merged with advisors from the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences to form the Office of Undergraduate Student Academic Services. Its purpose was to prepare freshman and sophomore students for the more rigorous coursework in their latter college years, provide general education opportunities to those who had not declared majors or entered other colleges on the campus, advise undergraduates with undeclared majors, and allow part-time degree-seeking students further educational opportunities.

 Scope and Contents

The Ohio State University, Student Council of University College Records contain minutes, correspondence, applications, and other administrative materials, as well as photographs, a scrapbook, and a shirt. Topics of the collection include events, projects, history, and awards. Collection materials date from 1970-2001.
