Historical Note

The Delphic Debating Society was founded in 1912 as the Delphic Debating club; it was one of the oldest literary societies on campus, and solely admitted female students of good academic standing after a tryout delivering a five-minute speech. It was also referred to as the Delphic honorary literary society. Women gathered together to engage in debates, deliver speeches or readings, and socialize. Delphic was also referred to as an English honorary, and as a creative writing honorary.

In 1926, Delphic underwent a change and was installed as the Alpha Epsilon chapter of Chi Delta Phi, a national women's literary society. It was the 24th chapter of the society, and was active until at least 1974.
