<emph render="italic">Makio</emph>, which means "magic mirror" in Japanese. It was established in 1880 by two fraternities, Phi Gamma Delta and Phi Kappa Psi, and at the time was primarily a yearbook for those fraternities. The

<p>There have been several years in which the
<emph render="italic">Makio</emph> was not published. In 1881, it was not published due to feuding between the two founding fraternities; the 1893 edition was also skipped. By the late 1960s and 1970s, the
<emph render="italic">Makio</emph> was losing popularity due to the immense size of the student population, which meant one was less likely to see many people they actually knew in the yearbook. After several years of sharply declining sales, the
<emph render="italic">Makio</emph> was not published in 1979, but was rescued in 1980 and put out again that year. Following a period of inactivity in the 1990s that lasted from 1995 to 2000, the
<emph render="italic">Makio</emph> was again rescued financially, and published continuously until 2013, after which production again stopped due to student disinterest. As of 2018, the Makio was not an active student organization.</p>
