The Student Senate was the main student governing body at Ohio State University from 1927 to 1967. In 1927, Joseph Park, the secretary of the University YMCA, proposed a plan to improve Ohio State University’s student government by dissolving Men’s Student Council and the Boost Ohio committee and replacing them with Student Senate and Student Court. Men’s Student Council and Boost Ohio approved the plan, after which it was approved by student vote. The structure of the new Student Senate was based on that of Boost Ohio. Senators were a mix of those elected by the student body and those appointed as representatives of colleges and major campus organizations. The President and Vice President were elected by members of Student Senate until 1962, when the student body began electing these officers. In 1967, a new constitution was written that dissolved Student Senate and Student Court and replaced them with Undergraduate Student Government.
