Historical Note
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter was founded at Ohio State University in January 1922 after members of the university's Civil Engineers' Club petitioned the national ASCE professional organization for membership. It is a pre-professional student organization that exists to help students network with peers, professionals, and professors. ASCE hosts speakers and has monthly meetings; they also support civil engineering project teams who compete against other schools in the Ohio Valley Student Conference. As of 2022, OSU's ASCE competes with a concrete canoe team, steel bridge team, surveying team, and environmental design team. These competitions allow students to grow their teamwork skills, as well as learn more about the field of civil engineering. Membership in ASCE is open to any Ohio State University student who is interested in civil engineering.
