The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) was founded in 1968 by members of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA); the parent group wanted to engage with students and help educate them on the future of the public relations field. That year, PRSA chartered nine official chapters at schools meeting the charter requirements, including the Ohio State University Chapter. PRSSA is for students interested in public relations and communications fields, and consists of more than 300 chapters worldwide. The national organization offers job postings, scholarships, and competitions, all designed to keep public relations students up to date in the field.
The Ohio State University Chapter works to help engage members in the public relations field by hosting speakers, offering networking events, and providing professional development opportunities. The chapter is also in charge of The PRactice, a student-run public relations firm at The Ohio State University; it offers hands-on public relations experience with real clients for students hired by the firm. The Public Relations Student Society of America, Ohio State University Chapter is active as of 2019.
The Public Relations Student Society of America, Ohio State University Chapter Records contain items placed in a time capsule by the chapter in 2018, and administrative files; the time capsule is being stored in the Ohio State University Archives for safekeeping. The chapter plans to re-open the time capsule in 2042. Materials in this collection date from 2017 and 2018, and consist of items such as articles, letters to the future, chapter awards, and photographs.
