College Democrats of America was first organized in 1932 as a national organization to support the election campaign of Franklin D. Roosevelt. The group promotes Democratic legislative agendas and candidates for office, and is seen as a student organization of the Democratic National Committee. Chapters are organized at colleges and universities across America at a local level, which are further organized into statewide groups.
The College Democrats at The Ohio State University, sometimes referred to as the OSU College Democrats, were founded in 1982 in support of Democratic candidates in the election that year. They sponsor speakers from local and national Democratic parties, fundraise for political candidates and campaigns, host debates with the College Republicans at Ohio State, and promote voter turnout among students. The College Democrats are active as of 2019.
The College Democrats at The Ohio State University Records contain a Clinton/Kaine campaign placard signed by candidates for office or other Democrat officials who visited campus in 2016 and 2017, including former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and U.S. Senators Cory Booker and Elizabeth Warren, as well as a key to the signatures on the placard. The collection also contains a copy of the College Democrats' logo; all materials date from 2016-2017.
