Historical Note

The Ohio State University Activities Band was formed in 1947; it was intended to allow busy students, especially non-music majors, to participate in a band. In 1957, it was renamed the Buckeye Band, and by 1964 it had grown large enough to be divided into two bands, the Buckeye Scarlet Band and the Buckeye Gray Band. The bands performed formal concerts and at Ohio State University basketball games; they have also sold recordings of their performances several times. In 1979, the groups were respectively renamed Symphonic Band and University Band. Both are active as of 2018.
