 Historical Note

Chimes Junior Class Honorary was founded in 1918 by Harriet Day and Helen Dustman at Ohio State University. It was established as an undergraduate junior honorary student organization, initially designated to be female only membership but welcoming both female and male memberships as of 1948. The foreground of Chimes’s beliefs are scholarship, leadership, and service. As of 2017, it was an active organization at Ohio State University.

 Scope and Contents

The Ohio State University, Chimes Junior Class Honorary Records contain scrapbooks, correspondence, membership lists and addresses, treasurer's reports, a constitution, applications, other administrative files, a Chimes pin, and a bell. The materials date from circa 1911-1997.

 General Note

The bell was removed from Acc. 175/2004 in 2018 when it was returned from on loan at the University Museum because it does not fall under the same RG as the other material with which it had been original accessioned.
