 Historical Note

Phi Beta Kappa, a national liberal arts and sciences honor society, was founded at the College of William and Mary in 1776. The Epsilon of Ohio chapter was established in 1904 at Ohio State University and is active as of 2018. As of 2018, members do not apply, but are invited to join after evaluation by a faculty committee. Criteria for membership include: meeting a minimum grade point average, status as a junior, senior, or recent graduate, and a program of study in the College of Arts and Sciences deemed to be outstanding, rigorous, and broad.

 Scope and Contents

The Phi Beta Kappa, Epsilon of Ohio Records contain correspondence, membership records, council records, minutes, and other administrative materials. The collection also contains a Phi Beta Kappa pin. Collection materials are dated 1901-1960.
