 Historical Note

The Scarlet Mask Club was a student organization at Ohio State University. After its founding in 1919, it was active off-and-on until 1959 (1919-1932, 1938-1940, 1948-1952, and 1954-1959). The Club was a musical comedy performance group, often, but not always, composed entirely of male students. Their productions were usually original works written by Ohio State University students, although they also performed established theatrical works. During the Club’s earlier active years, it included a Scarlet Mask orchestra, and productions were taken on tour around Ohio and outside of the state. Scarlet Mask Club is not active as of 2018.

 Scope and Contents

The Ohio State University, Scarlet Mask Club Records contain production and administrative materials. Production materials include music scores, programs, posters, and press releases for multiple productions presented by the Scarlet Mask Club. Administrative materials include constitutions, financial reports, audition forms, history, news articles, membership lists, and minutes. Collection materials are dated 1920-1976.
