Historical Note

Omicron Nu Society was a national honor society founded in 1912 at Michigan State University as a way to recognize outstanding scholarship in home economics programs. Initially, it was solely open to women, though it eventually became co-ed. Members must have declared a major in family and consumer sciences, or in one of the specializations in human sciences, have completed 45 semester hours, and rank in the top 25% of their class. In 1990, Omicron Nu was consolidated with fellow honorary Kappa Omicron Phi, to form the Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society. As of 2018, there are 96 active chapters.

Omicron Nu Society, Omega Chapter was founded at the Ohio State University in 1927. Its purpose was to promote awareness of the fields of human sciences, and demonstrate opportunities available in the field through lectures and presentations. Following the merger of national Omicron Nu and Kappa Omicron Phi into Kappa Omicron Nu, the Ohio State University chapter became known as the Omicron Omega Chapter. The chapter was last active in 2009.
