Historical Note

Romophos is an Ohio State University sophomore class honorary founded in 1932; it took its name from spelling the word "sophomore" backward, with a little rearranging and dropping of letters. The honorary was initially composed solely of male students, but became coed in 1978 to comply with federal Title IX regulations. Potential members apply during the end of fall semester in their freshman year of college, and are informed of their admittance early in the spring term. Each year, the current group of active Romophos members participates in fundraising for a selected charity. As of 2018, Romophos is an active honorary that continues to work towards the betterment of its members and the campus as a whole.

Scope and Contents

The Ohio State University, Romophos Records, contain items from the sophomore class honorary such as scrapbooks, meeting minutes, copies of the honorary's constitution, and a trophy from a talent show sponsored by Romophos. Items date from 1932 to 1966 and 1989 to 2006.

Correspondence, event files, meeting agendas, and minutes and member lists. Included is a bowling pin from the annual Romophos-MIrrors Bowling Benefit Challenge, which lists winners from 1989-1996, and a large, blue cloth banner with white felt letters that spell out "ROMOPHOS" on front. On the back of the banner is a small brown cloth square that says "Romophos Class of 1995-96."
