Tommy O'Shaughnessy was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951. While a student at the Ohio State University, he was involved in the Freshman Senate, Undergraduate Student Government, and worked on the campus grounds crew. O'Shaughnessy received his Bachelor of Arts from the Ohio State University in 1975. He married his wife Jane, who he met on campus, in 1982.
Jane O'Shaughnessy (called Janie Jackson while a student) earned her bachelor's degree in education from the Ohio State University in 1970. While a student, she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and was vice-president during her senior year. Several years after finishing her bachelor's, she returned to Ohio State for her master's degree.
The Tommy and Jane O’Shaughnessy Oral History Audio Recordings and Transcripts contains audio recordings of one oral history given by Tommy O'Shaughnessy, one oral history given by Jane O'Shaughnessy, and one given jointly by Tommy and Jane; all were recorded on April 1, 2010, and conducted by Kevlin Haire. A transcript of Tommy and Jane's solo oral histories are also available. In these oral histories, topics discussed include the riots that occurred at Ohio State University in 1970, their student experiences at Ohio State University, and involvement in student organizations.
