 Biographical Note

Frederick Karl Machetanz (1908-2002) was a student of arts at Ohio State University from 1926 until 1930. After graduating, Machetanz went on an expedition to Alaska, where he was inspired to write and paint. Some of Machetanz’s lithographs and oil paintings are owned by the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum at the Ohio State University.

 Scope and Contents

The Fred Machetanz Photographs and Postcards contain postcards and photographs showing images of Fred Machetanz's paintings. Machetanz sent the postcards to friends and family while living in Alaska over the course of almost fifty years. The paintings depict scenes from the Alaskan wilderness.
