Biographical Note
Felicitas Daniels Goodman (January 30, 1914-March 30, 2005) was born in Hungary to German parents. She earned a degree as an interpreter from the University of Heidelberg (Germany) in 1936, where she met her husband Glenn H. Goodman, who was an American. They immigrated to Columbus, Ohio in 1947. Felicitas returned to school in 1965 at age 51 and obtained her master's in linguistics from Ohio State in 1968, followed by a doctorate in cultural anthropology in 1971. Her dissertation was titled
Disturbances in the Apostolic Church: Case Study of a Trance-Based Upheaval in Yucatan. She taught linguistics, cultural anthropology, and comparative religions at Denison University from 1968 until 1979. Felicitas's studies focused on religious ecstatic trance and glossolalia (speaking in tongues.)
