            <abstract id="ref7" label="Abstract">Professor Charles Bradfield Morrey, Sr. was a professor and founder of the Department of Bacteriology at the Ohio State University from 1903 to 1935. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio State University in 1890, and a medical degree from Starling Medical College in 1896. The Charles Bradfield Morrey Sr. Papers consists of typed transcriptions of original correspondence by Morrey written to his parents while he was a student at the Ohio State University, as well as "The Dorm," a description of his life on campus and the dorm in which he lived, as well as correspondence from Morrey's daughter about her transcription of his original writings. Materials date from circa 1975.</abstract>

        <bioghist id="ref16">
            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Professor Charles Bradfield Morrey, Sr. (1869-1954) was a professor and Chairman of the Department of Bacteriology at the Ohio State University from 1903 to 1935. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio State University in 1890, and the M.D. degree from Starling Medical College in 1896. While in school, Morrey played for the first official Ohio State Football Team as a halfback. From 1890-1891, he was an instructor in Latin, Greek, and Physiology at the Ohio State University; following his time there, he taught Physiology at Starling Medical College, before completing graduate studies at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, and the University of Vienna in Austria in 1898 and 1899, respectively. In 1899, Morrey returned to the Ohio State University as an assistant professor of Anatomy, Physiology, and Bacteriology. He established the Department of Bacteriology in 1903, and acted as Chariman of the department until he became a professor emeritus in 1935.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The Charles Bradfield Morrey Sr. Papers consists of typed transcriptions of original correspondence by Morrey written to his parents while he was a student at the Ohio State University, as well as "The Dorm," a description of his life on campus and the dorm in which he lived. The originals of these writings date from 1885-1890, but the copies in this collection date from circa 1975. Correspondence from Morrey's daughter Jessie about her transcription of his original writings is also included in the collection.</p>
