This collection contains an oral history interview recording on compact disc and interview transcript with John Sidney Evans. Evans describes his experiences as an African-American student at Ohio State University, particularly his role in an April 26, 1968 sit-in at Bricker Hall, then known as the Administration Building. Evans was later arrested on draft evasion charges and expelled from school, but he returned in 1970, and continued his efforts to make OSU’s campus more inclusive for African-American students and more supportive in these students’ efforts to succeed. Evans also discusses his perceptions of campus today, including the efforts by OSU’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion to make campus a more welcoming place for everyone, and what more he thinks needs to be done.
