Vern R. Cahill (1918-2016) was a student in the College of Agriculture at Ohio State University from 1937 to 1941. He was a member of the editorial staff for the Agricultural Student, a magazine produced for agriculture students throughout the United States. Cahill was also a member of the Alpha Zeta fraternity throughout his career. Cahill was a graduate student of Animal Husbandry and after receiving his Master's degree, he began teaching as an instructor at Ohio State. Then, Cahill was drafted as a private for World War II in 1942. He returned to Columbus in 1946 and began working on his PhD in 1952. In 1955, where he complete his PhD, Cahill became an assistant professor at Ohio State University.
The Vern Cahill Papers contain Cahill's course notes and papers he wrote as a student at Ohio State University and an oral history interview of Vern Cahill conducted by Robert Warmbrod. In the interview, Cahill discusses his time working in the Meats Laboratory of the Department of Animal Science at Ohio State University and how the laboratory's operations and the College of Agriculture changed over time.

In the interview, Cahill discusses his life on a general farm in Ohio, as well as his time working in the Meats Laboratory of the Department of Animal Science at Ohio State University and how the laboratory's operations and the College of Agriculture changed over time. He also discusses his involvement with the Speaker's Rule, a 1951 regulation that gave the university president complete discretion in barring speakers from campus.
