        <bioghist id="ref7">
            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Charles Franklin Kettering (1876-1958) was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Ohio State University from 1946 until 1947. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees at Ohio State from March 1917 until May 1925, and again in January 1941 until his appointment to Chairman. Kettering also served as the University Treasurer from 1925 until his retirement in 1947.</p>
            <p>Kettering was also the Vice President of the Research Laboratories at General Motors Corporation and the Vice President of Dayton Engineering Laboratories (DELCO), of which he founded, both located in Dayton, Ohio at the time. Over his lifetime, he received twenty honorary degrees. Kettering invented the automobile self-starter, battery ignition and lighting system, and the electric cash register; he also contributed to the automobile industry, especially with his development of tetra-ethyl lead gasoline and the two-cycle diesel engine.</p>
