            <abstract id="ref20" label="Abstract">James R. Tootle was a student and administrator at the Ohio State University; he was named the assistant dean of the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences in 1983, a role he held until his retirement in 1999. The James R. Tootle Oral History Transcript and Compact Disc Recording contains an oral history of Tootle from June 2011; in it, Tootle discusses his years at the Ohio State University as both a student and an administrator, as well as his experiences during the riots on campus during the late 1960s.</abstract>

        <bioghist id="ref7">
            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>James R. Tootle (June 21, 1943-) was a student and administrator at the Ohio State University. He studied history as an undergraduate and a graduate student, and after earning his Ph.D., started working as a college secretary in University College in 1972. In 1983, Tootle was named the assistant dean of the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences, a role he held until his retirement in 1999. During this time, he worked with the Sphinx Senior Honorary, Romophos Sophomore Honorary, Edward S. “Beanie” Drake Scholarship Board, and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, while also working with the Special Action Admissions Committee and the Committee on the Undergraduate Experience. Following his retirement, Tootle remained involved in the Ohio State University community, and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio State University in 2012.</p>

            <p>The James R. Tootle Oral History Transcript and Compact Disc Recording contains an oral history of Tootle conducted by Kevlin Haire on June 11, 2011. The oral history is available as an audio recording on compact disc and as a transcript. In this interview, Tootle discusses his years at the Ohio State University as both a student and an administrator, as well as his experiences during the riots on campus during the late 1960s.</p>
