 Biographical Note

William Stone Guthrie (April 4, 1912-January 2, 2002) was the assistant dean of men and director of student employment at Ohio State University, beginning his career in 1936. In 1943, Guthrie was appointed to the positon of junior dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He was then appointed to the junior deanship in 1946, eventually working his way up to the position of associate dean in 1956. Guthrie was appointed to assistant to the vice president for student relations in 1957. From 1946 to 1957, Guthrie also was the director of orientation programs. Guthrie served as an administrative officer of the cabinet of the president of the University in 1957, while also serving in the position of president at the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. His career at Ohio State University ended with his retirement in 1961. Guthrie received the Distinguished Service Award and the College of Administrative Science Distinguished Service Award from Ohio State University in 1962 and 1970, respectively.

The William Guthrie Oral History Transcript and Audiocassette Recording contains the transcript and audio of an interview of Guthrie by Robert Sutton on December 7, 1983. In this oral history, Guthrie discusses his extensive history and involvement in Ohio State University from his student years and time as a member of the administration.
