Charlotte Remenyik (1934-2011) was the head coach for both men’s and women’s fencing teams at Ohio State University. She began coaching the women’s fencing team at Northwestern University in 1972, until she began her coaching career at Ohio State University in 1978. Remenyik’s career at Ohio State began as the women’s fencing coach and then taking on the coaching role of the men’s team in 1980. Remenyik was the first woman at Ohio State University to coach a men’s varsity team; she was also the first woman to coach both men’s and women’s teams simultaneously. Remenyik brought the women’s team to win the Big Ten Championship title every year from 1981 to 1984. In 1985, under her tenure, the men placed third in the Big Ten Championships. The Remenyik Open, held at Northwestern University, is named in her honor.
