 Biographical Note

Frank W. Hale, Jr. (March 24, 1927-July 27, 2011) was the associate dean of the graduate school and professor of communication at Ohio State University from 1971 to 1988. He also served as Ohio State University's vice provost for minority affairs, beginning his term in 1978. Hale was appointed as special assistant to the president at Ohio State University in 1987 under the term of Edward H. Jennings. He retired from the University on December 31, 1988. Because of his contribution to Ohio State University, the Frank W. Hale Jr. Black Cultural Center is named in his honor. Under President William E. Kirwan, Hale returned to Ohio State University with the title of Distinguished University Representative and Consultant in 1999.

The Frank Hale, Jr. Oral History Transcript and Audiocassette Recording contain an oral history of Frank Hale, Jr. conducted by Marge Bennett on April 10, 2001. In the oral history, Hale discusses his childhood experiences with school segregation, and his work at Ohio State University as an associate dean and as Vice Provost for Minority Affairs.
