Carla M. Curtis describes her career as a faculty member within the College of Social Work at The Ohio State University. In this position, she has served on a number of different committees, and has chaired the Graduate Studies Committee. In 2009, she was selected to participate in a program for women at Bryn Mawr College called the Higher Education Resources Services program (HERS), which makes in-depth training opportunities available for women who are interested in higher education administration and leadership positions. Curtis describes her recruitment to the College of Social Work at Ohio State, a College in which her mother had been a faculty member since the 1960s. She describes what it was like to work in the same College as her mother for a number of years, and her experience finding a mentor. She talks about the diversity of her department at the time she was hired, and describes her research on African American children and families in child welfare. Also active in the Columbus community, Curtis served on the Alcohol, Drug, and Mental Health Services Board in Franklin County for nine years as Vice President, President, and Secretary. She also served on the American Red Cross Board for The Buckeye Ranch, a provider of emotional, behavioral, and mental health services for children, young adults and families.
