Bailey was a professor of physical education, the first Women's Basketball coach, and Associate Director of Athletics at Ohio State University. The Phyllis J. Bailey Papers contain correspondence, programs and booklets from Wayne University, and a transcript with audio recordings of an oral history interview. Interview discussion topics include implementation of Title IX and advocating for the joint administration of men's and women's sports programs.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Phyllis J. Bailey was a professor of physical education at Ohio State University. She was the first Women's Basketball coach and was appointed Associate Director of Athletics in 1975. Phyllis retired from the University in 1994.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The Phyllis J. Bailey Papers contain correspondence, programs and booklets from Bailey's time as a professor at Wayne University from 1952 to 1956. The collection also contains an oral history interview transcript and audiocassettes of an interview with Phyllis Bailey conducted by Judy Fountain on December 8, 2004. Discussion topics include the implementation of Title IX, which guaranteed equal opportunities for women to participate in intercollegiate sports, and advocating for the joint administration of men's and women's sports programs.</p>
