 Biographical Note

Donald Ransom Whitney (1915-2007) enrolled at Ohio State University in 1946, accepting a teaching assistantship. He joined the faculty in the Mathematics Department with a focus on statistics. His collaboration with Henry Mann led to the development of the Mann-Whitney test. He was also involved in creating the Numerical Computation Lab, a predecessor to the Statistics Laboratory and the Instructional Research Computer Center. Whitney also played a major role in establishing statistics as a department separate from mathematics in 1970.

 Scope and Contents

The D. Ransom Whitney Oral History Transcript and Audiocassette Recordings contain a transcript and audiocassettes of an oral history interview with D. Ransom Whitney conducted by Tom Wilke in May and June 2003.
