            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Hans Sperber (1885-1963) received a Ph.D. in Germanic and Romance Philology from the University of Vienna in 1907. He taught from 1909 to 1916 at the University of Upsala in Sweden, and then at the University of Cologne from 1919 to 1933. He was a professor in the German Department at Ohio State University from 1934 to 1955.</p>

            <p>The Hans Sperber Papers contain speeches and writings on political language (1944-1959), radio talks (in German) on the German language (1927-1928) and studies on word derivations and semantics. It also includes essays, articles, lectures, and audiotapes of lectures.</p>
