 Biographical Note

Kathryn Tucker Schoen (1922-) became the first woman vice president at Ohio State University when she was appointed to lead educational services in 1978. She also served as acting dean of the College of Nursing from 1983-1984.

 Scope and Contents

The Kathryn T. Schoen Papers contain audiocassette recordings, transcripts, and other administrative documents related to two oral history interviews conducted with Kathryn T. Schoen in 1983 and 2002. The 1983 interview discusses background on Schoen's career as a professor and an administrator, the work and findings of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Status of Women at OSU, which she chaired, and highlights of history of the affirmative action policies at OSU. The 2002 interview discussion topics include Schoen's education and early careers as a teacher, becoming Assistant Director to the School of Allied Medical Professions at OSU, student unrest during the Vietnam War, Schoen's contributions as part of the American Council on Education to promote women to higher level administration in universities, and the establishment of the Kathryn T. Schoen Endowment Fund.
