Biographical Note
Jacob Philip Schmidt (1893-1965) was a professor of rural sociology at Ohio State University from 1928 to 1957. He also served as supervisor of farmer's institutes, later known as community institutes, through the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station in Wooster, Ohio.

The Jacob Philip and Lorene Z. Schmidt Papers contain correspondence, reports, publications and other administrative records related to Jacob's position as a faculty member of Ohio State University. It also contains slides and two diaries kept by Jacob during the period he spent in India helping farmers improve agricultural methods, and an additional diary kept by his wife, Lorene Z. Schmidt, during the same time period. The materials are dated 1921-1964.

Scope and Contents
1. OSU Prof. Jacob P. Schmidt participated from 1955-1957 in a two-year project in India through the College of Agriculture that assisted in the development of agriculture education, research and extension programs. From that trip are the following: Two notebooks, a travel diary, receipt book, calendar, and hand-written letter, three black-and-white photos and approximately 850 slides. 2. Approximately 170 slides taken by Schmidt of campus scenes, including football games, from 1949-1962. Three negatives of the horticulture gardens are also included.
