 Historical Note

George Wendell Eckelberry (1892-1968) started at The Ohio State University in 1915 as an assistant in economics and sociology. After advancing to the rank of professor he became chairman of the Department of Accounting in 1922. From 1926 to 1938 he served as Assistant to President George W. Rightmire. Serving during the Great Depression, Eckelberry's duties as the Assistant were broad, but focused on budgetary and other business matters. He supervised the faculty budget and was chairman of the Council on Instruction. Eckelberry returned to his position as professor after President Rightmire's term ended, retiring in 1962.
