            <abstract id="ref20" label="Abstract">The Ohio State University Columbus Quincentenary Celebration Collection contains correspondence, reports, conference materials, readings for radio discussions, and other files regarding Spanish studies and Columbus 500th celebrations that took place at Ohio State University in preparation for the Columbus quincentenary in 1992. The collection materials date from 1988 to 1992. The Ohio State University played a significant role in the city of Columbus' celebration of the 500th anniversary of Columbus' arrival in the Americas, both as an organizer and source of funding.</abstract>

            <head>Historical Note</head>
            <p>The Ohio State University played a major role in the city of Columbus' celebration of the 500th anniversary of Columbus' arrival in the Americas. University President Edward Jennings appointed a 1992 Coordinating Council to oversee celebrations on campus. The University eventually organized research projects and conferences related to Spanish and humanities studies.</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The Ohio State University Columbus Quincentenary Celebration Collection contains correspondence, reports, conference materials, and clippings regarding Spanish studies and other humanities projects that took place at Ohio State University in preparation for the Columbus quincentenary in 1992. Some of the materials were produced by the Office of Continuing Education. The collection also contains a bound volume of readings for NPR and Ohio State University radio discussions on the quincentenary. The collection materials date from 1988 to 1992.</p>
