Historical Note
The Ohio Coal Research Laboratories Association was a non-profit organization founded in 1979 to study topics related to coal, including the feasibility of burning high-sulfer coal and methods for improving mine safety and productivity. The association was composed of universities engaged in coal research, including four charter members: Ohio State University, Ohio University, Case Western Reserve University, and the University of Cincinnati. The Ohio Coal Research Laboratories Association was funded by the state of Ohio and the United States Department of Energy. The organization was active until at least 1983, at which point it consisted of 12 university laboratories. It is no longer active as of 2017.
