Historical Note
The North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, also known as the North Central Association (or NCA), was established in Illinois in 1895 as the Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools of the North Central States. The NCA was a membership organization engaged in educational accreditation for colleges, universities, and other schools and included institutions from nineteen states, primarily located in the Midwest. The NCA was one of six regional accreditation bodies recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. In 2014, the NCA was merged with other educational accreditation organizations to form AdvancED, a non-governmental educational accreditation organization.
