The Ohio State University Committee on Health Education began when the state of Ohio initiated "The Ohio Extended Health Education Project" in 1947. The program was designed to improve and create interest in health among young people in America. At the charge of University President Howard Bevis, Ohio State University appointed an advisory committee to run the project, which was implemented through conferences and courses held at schools in Ohio and on the OSU campus. The project was completed by the state of Ohio in 1950. The committee at Ohio State University was then renamed the Committee on Health Education and continued to facilitate the original program's objectives at the University.
The Ohio State University, Committee on Health Education Records contain compiled historical data, reports, minutes, conference planning materials and final agendas, publications, and correspondence. Florence L. Fogle, coordinator of school health education on the committee and a professor at Ohio State University, is author, contributor or compiler of much of the published material.
