On October 8, 1957 the Faculty Council of Ohio State University authorized President Novice Fawcett to reactivate the Committee on Ranks, Titles and Tenure, a committee originally appointed in 1955 to "study policies and practices for the designation of academic ranks and titles." President Fawcett appointed the committee on October 21, extending its responsibilities to include the "study of policies related to tenure and methods of promotion."
The Ohio State University, Committee on Ranks, Titles and Tenure Records contain reports, drafts of and final publications produced by the committee, notes, and correspondence.
