            <p>The Ohio State University Committee on the General College was authorized at the University Faculty meeting on May 10, 1934 to "consider the introduction into the University program of a group of courses especially designed to meet the needs of the students who do not desire to follow the regular curricula or are not capable of doing so through lack of preparation or native ability."</p>

            <head>Scope and Contents</head>
            <p>The
                <emph render="italic"> Preliminary Report of The Committee on the General College: Part I and II</emph> was issued on April 27, 1936, to summarize the conclusions of the committee's discussions on introducing specific courses at Ohio State University for students unable or not desiring to follow the standard curriculum. Part II of the report contains factual material on which the recommendations in Part I are based. Both were considered confidential at the time of their release.</p>
