Michael V. Drake (1951-) was the fifteenth president of Ohio State University (OSU) from 2014 until June 2020. Before coming to OSU, Drake was a chancellor of the University of California, Irvine from 2005 to 2014. At the time of his appointment at OSU, Drake was also a part of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Institute of Medicine, and the board of directors of NCAA Division I. In late 2019, Drake announced that he planned to retire in 2020; however, he instead took a job in July 2020 as the 21st president of the University of California system, a post he still holds as of 2021.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a highly contagious respiratory disease that was first detected in China in December 2019; it was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization in March 2020, and resulted in mandated lockdowns, mask wearing, and stay-at-home orders across the world in an attempt to prevent the spread of the disease. Multiple vaccines for the disease were developed in the fall of 2020, which helped slow the spread of the virus. As of July 2021, approximately 4 million people worldwide have died from the virus.
The Ohio State University, Office of the President (Michael V. Drake), COVID-19 Pandemic Response and Transition Records, date from 2020 and 2021, and consist of artifacts and signage used during the COVID-19 Pandemic response at the Ohio State University during the last few months of Drake's tenure as university president.
Signage, cards and components of an employee kit for preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus before and after campus began opening up to staff and visitors in August 2020. Includes floor and table stickers to encourage safe distancing, as well as a drawstring bag, masks, sanitizer, thermometer, and sanitizing wipes. Signage includes some regarding the vaccine, which began to be available to hospital employees in February 2021, other staff in March 2021 and students in April 2021.
Sign hung at entrances of stacks in Thompson Library barring patrons from entering. The book stacks were closed during the 2020-2021 academic year because of restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Three sticker balls composed of social-distancing stickers that were removed from classrooms after the university relaxed some of its health-safety rules related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The stickers had been placed in public spaces in the summer of 2020 all over campus, in anticipation of students, faculty and staff returning to the University for the fall semester. Also included are unused samples of social-distancing stickers.
