Prior to 1968, the Ohio State University had its arts and sciences programs organized within the College of Arts and Sciences. In 1968, this college was divided into five colleges, one of which was the College of Biological Sciences; the next year, a general undergraduate major in Biology was added. The College of Biological Sciences contained the agricultural biochemistry, botany and plant pathology, microbiology, zoology, and entomology departments, as well as the division of biophysics. As of 2010, the five colleges separated in 1968 were again reunited by the university's Board of Trustees into the College of Arts and Sciences.
