Scope and Contents

The Ohio Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit Publications date from 1936 to 1996, and consist of publications such as annual and quarterly reports, and news releases.

Historical Note

The Cooperative Research Unit national program was begun in Iowa by J. N. Darling, the director of the Federal Bureau of Biological Survey. In 1935, he successfully lobbied Congress for support of a nationwide cooperative wildlife research program, and units were established at land-grant universities in nine states, including the Ohio State University. Cooperative Reserach Units focus on graduate education, research, and technical assistance, all of which are centered around natural resources and wildlife. The Ohio Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit was a part of the Department of Zoology in the College of Biological Sciences. As of 2021, the Ohio Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit is not active.
