First proposed in 1997, the Ohio State University, Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing (CSTW) was formally established in 1999 as an interdisciplinary support and research unit within the College of Humanities. Their purpose is to promote literacy, help students and other university community members work on and improve their writing, and help to promote reading, speaking, and writing as intellectual activities that are necessary for participation in life. CSTW runs five programs that assist the writing community at the Ohio State University, which are as follows: the Writing Center, Writing Across the Curriculum, Writing Associates Program, Columbus Global Academy, and Research. As of 2021, the CSTW is still serving the campus community.
