 Historical Note

On July 1, 1959 the division of Geodetic Science was established in the Department of Geology at Ohio State University. In 1961, the division became the Department of Geodetic Science, and in 1981, the Department of Geodetic Science and Surveying. In 1995, the department moved from the College of Mathematical and Physical Sciences to the College of Engineering and merged with the Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Graphics. The combined units were renamed the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Geodetic Science. In 2005 the majority of the geodetic science faculty was moved to the Department of Geological Sciences within the College of Mathematical and Physical Sciences. The next year, 2006, the Department of Geological Sciences became the School of Earth Sciences, which had divisions including the Division of Geodesy and Geospatial Science. In 2009, the division name was changed to the Division of Geodetic Science.

 Scope and Contents

The Ohio State University, Division of Geodetic Science Records contain annual reports and brochures, many from the Center for the Commercial Development of Space in Real-Time Satellite Mapping (CCDS) at Ohio State University. The collection also includes articles related to geodesy, satellite mapping, and the geodetic science program at the University. The collection dates from 1952-2002, 2019.
