 Historical Note

The Perkins Observatory, located in Delaware, Ohio, opened in 1935 and is jointly owned by Ohio State University and Ohio Wesleyan University and is used for astronomical research. The observatory was named for Hiram Mills Perkins, who graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1857. Perkins donated $200,000 to Ohio Wesleyan University to purchase a telescope. The observatory is used as a teaching tool and a research laboratory.
