Historical Note

In 1882, The Ohio State University established the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station (OAES) to direct agricultural research on campus. In 1926, the Purnell Act made funds available for home economics research, so the Department of Home Economics was established at the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station, now located in Wooster, Ohio, and administratively united with the Department of Home Economics on the Ohio State University main campus. Future directors and faculty members of the School of Home Economics would serve simultaneously in joint appointments at the Experiment Station, coordinating home economics teaching and research. In 1965, the Station changed its name to the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC).
